Freshman Success and Transition Program

Multicultural Academic and Support Services provides academic support with cultural understanding for Multicultural and First-Generation College Students. Our Advisors provide a unique support system designed to assist you with every phase of your education. Assistance in securing admission and program information, personal and academic advisement and community resources referrals are but a few services provided. Advisors act as advocates for students with faculty and staff and serve as a resource for scholarships. We promote leadership development for our population of students.

Retention Services
MASS has an intentional and focused contact system designed to connect multicultural students to the university. This service is primarily directed at freshmen or first-time in college (FTIC) students.

Individual Advising Appointment
Academic advising is one of the most important services provided at UCF. The process of academic advising is a two-way interaction where the student and the advisor work together to achieve a common goal, the students' success. Freshmen are encouraged to schedule an appointment to meet with their advisor once during the fall and spring of their first year at UCF before the withdrawal deadline. Individual advising sessions are designed to assist freshmen during their transition from high school to college. Advisors discuss and set students' personal and academic goals; assess academic status and interests, and general issues relevant to the first year.

Student Success Seminars Freshmen are also encouraged to attend at least one academic skills seminar of their choice once during the fall and spring of their first year at UCF before the withdrawal deadline. Academic Skill Seminars address various transitional topics and critical issues such as time management, study skills, math and test anxiety, etc.

Group Advising Sessions Freshmen are also encouraged to attend one group advising session during the fall and spring to receive updated information regarding major requirements and prerequisites, to prepare an upcoming semester class schedule prior to registration and to obtain relevant information about University policies and procedures.
